3 Ways to Save Money on a Vacation

Discover some great ideas on how to keep more money in your wallet and still have a great vacation. Present these thoughts to your family or friends and be a vacation hero. Fresh thinking and out of the ordinary plans are the start to saving money and a better life.

Travel Out of Season

It used to be a family had to take all their vacations in the summer because that is when the kids were out of school. School schedules now usually have several breaks during the year. If you like the beach an oceanfront hotel in July is very expensive. Look at the rates during the weeks a fall break might happen. Avoid the crowds and intense heat and save a bundle of money.

Another out of season idea is to travel at odd times. A family plane ticket Thanksgiving Day is cheap. If relatives have a meal Thanksgiving evening instead of during the day you can save a ton of money. A cruise to Alaska in late April can be way less than half price if your schedule will permit that.

Take a Short Cruise

The cost of a 4 day cruise off season can be less than the price of an oceanfront hotel room for one day in the summer. That cruise includes all your meals and most activities on the ship. The value of a cruise really adds up when you consider all that is included. Recently we had a wonderful 4 day cruise to the Bahamas that gave us 3 days at home to keep relaxing.

Even if you go on a short cruise in the summer the cost can be less than one day at a premium hotel with the extra food and entertainment expenses. Look at the cheap prices of 3, 4, and 5 days cruises. The destinations on a 7 day cruise are usually a bit more exciting but even short cruises have good places to visit.

Try a “Stay-cation”

Plan a week to stay home and still do exciting stuff. There are probably many places in your area that tourists will visit and you have never seen. The cost of lodging is saved but you can enjoy some places that only require the cost of admission.

Try a short trip for savings. One of the best vacations our family had was to put a bicycle rack on the car. We spent 2 days riding around a loop at Cades Cove Tennessee but only one day at a hotel. The short distance from our home saved on hotel expenses.

There are a lot of ways to have a great vacation and not stress the family budget. Use the tips given here and let your creative juices flow to create your own. Life is too short not to enjoy it to the fullest. Take a money saving vacation today.

I love the staycations. It's amazing what you can discover locally.
