This new year, one of the best things to think about is how we can increase our savings. See how your coins can make you rich.

All about coins

I was looking around for a saying about coins and this is the one I found. Some of us does not value the coins because they are just coins, unless you want to have a collector's items of coins even old coins have value for you. Even if you have hundreds of coins, it cannot make you that rich especially if it has a low monetary value. However, if you are frugal and you know how to pile those coins- you may be able to save up a big amount of money than you thought possible.

“May you always have work for your hands to do.

May your pockets hold always a coin or two.

May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.

May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.

May the hand of a friend always be near you.

And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.”

-Irish Blessings Quotes

Old American Era Philippine Coins

I remember seeing these kinds of coins when I am small. I found these kinds of coins embedded or cemented near the door of our old house. Probably its old folks superstitions to place coins near the entrance to attract luck to the house.

1972 one peso coin

I see a lot of these huge one peso coin but during my childhood, it no longer has value. One peso coin continuously reshape and it gets smaller now. I think its useless to save one peso coin on the coin bank so better use them and always have them on your pocket.

Flora and Fauna Series

I really miss these series of coins. These are the coins probably during the 80s and late 90s. One of my favorite coin is this 2 peso coin with decagon shape and the cocos nucifera design or the coconut tree. Flora and fauna series all features animals and plants popular here in the Philippines.

One centavo coin

I only found as of today that we had a one-centavo coin in the flora and fauna series. I did not saw this when I was small, what we usually have is the ten-centavo coin with a fish. These are light weight coins which for me really does not have any value and we just play with these coins as it cannot buy anything, not even a candy.

This one centavo coin has the image of a seashell with its scientific name voluta imperialis. If you want to have a collection of Philippine coins and commemorative coins you should look out for this coin as I think this is rare and a collector's item too.

Bagong Lipunan Series

Now we also have this Bagong Lipunan series. One of my favorite here is this 5 centavo coin that has the shape of a flower and with the image of Melchora Aquino. This one also has no value and we just played with this coin when I was small.

Current Philippine coins

Now here is the complete set of Philippine coins circulating now. The 5 peso and 10 peso paper bill has been turned to coins. So today the coins range from 5 centavo to 10 pesos. Before there was a 50 centavo coin but now only 25 centavo coins are around. Mostly the 5 centavos and 10 centavos are the ones we get at malls when we have a few cents as change for what we have purchased.

Saving up these coins

I guess, our 10 peso and 5 peso coins are useful for those who want to save up. You can have an alkansya or piggy bank and store up these coins. They are quite heavy and has a bigger value. So if you put 10 peso coin a day, in about 10 days you will have 100 pesos. If there are shortages of these coins, probably a lot of people have already been putting these or hiding these coins on their coin banks. I guess the Central Bank of the Philippines needs to produce a lot of these coins.

We can start saving up these coins now so by the end of 2012 we will be surprised to see that we are able to save some of our earnings or in case of any emergency, these coins are just around to save us from our immediate needs.

Old coins as you illustrated here are collector's item. I'm familiar with these coins, too.

It's good to save coins for a rainy day. Thanks for sharing, Aubrey. Mabuhay!

One of your problems is syntax. Syntax is the grammatical arrangement of words in sentences Another big problem for you is using the right tenses. There is an excellent book called "The Elements of Style" by Strunk and White. The 4th Edition can be purchased on Amazon.com for $9.9+ S&H. This is a classic reference/textbook on English Grammar. Although originally written in 1918, it is still used by many college professors today in teaching English Composition 101 (Freshman English). Besides explaining all the basic rules of American English Grammar and composition, it is packed with examples illustrating the proper application of the rules. No guarantees, but I investing in a copy of the book would go a long way of helping you become a better writer.

I still think that these kinds of conversations would be better conducted through email.
