This tells of how to be self sufficient and save money on your energy bills. Such as keeping the air filters clean in the air-conditioner, cleaning lit out of the dryer periodically and such easy to do things to save in the long run.

Here are some smart housekeeping tips that can help you keep more money in your purse for those summertime activities. Very easy things to do to help you save on your energy bill.

Energy Bill Savings Tips

When was the last time you dusted your light bulbs? Dust on dirty light bulbs can defuse up to 50% of the light they would normally put out. Just use a damp cloth once a month to clean off dust that has accumulated on bulbs.
So don't change the wattage of the light bulbs in that area of a room that seems so dark. Just clean off the dust.

Vacuum mattresses once each season to get rid of allergens, bacteria and dust mites. To freshen beds in the household put a mixture of
4 drops of lavender oil and 1 cup of baking soda in a jar, shake well and then shake on the bed. Let it stand for an hour. This will draw dirt and moisture to the surface, then vacuum off the excess.

Dirty air filters are bad for your health. You can save from 5% to 15% on your energy bill by cleaning or replacing the air-filters in your air conditioning unit. If you have a window unit pull down the grill to find the air filter or, in the wall, ceiling or floor vent where ever the vent is larger than the others. If it is washable take it out and soak it in warm soapy water for an hour, let dry and replace. Pretty easy to save your bill each month.

Letting your dryer remain full of lint can cause your machine to work anywhere from 50% to 75% more. By getting in the habit of cleaning out the lint trap after every load can help a lot. Pull out the screen and brush it with a dry cloth. Dryer sheets and cloth lint or fibers can coat the moisture sensors that are located just inside the machine. These are two parallel metal strips on the inside wall of your machine and they can cause your loads to be under dried if not kept clean. Once a season just wipe them down with the scratchy side of a sponge.

Did you know that by keeping your range top, burners, reflectors and oven clean you can save up to 10% on your energy bill? Keeping this all clean can warm food faster and redirect heat more effectively. Clean off these areas and wipe away crumbs with some warm, soapy water and a sprinkle of baking soda.

By vacuuming the coils on your refrigerator you can save up to 30% annually on that energy bill. These coils are located either on the bottom of the from of the frig or on the back. Minimize the amount of time the door is left open and don't store things on top for more affective energy usage.

But it doesn't have to make it so that you don't want to follow good practice.
