The 2007 - 2009 economic crisis caused a global recession where jobs and homes were lost for many families. Looking back 6 years later, are you still feeling the effects?

Staying Afloat

When the 2007 global recession hit, America was hit like a ton of bricks. Countless people lost their jobs, defaulted on their home loans, fell into depression, and in some cases saw their families torn apart.

When people are put under this kind of stress, there is no telling what they will be pushed to. Many families are still feeling the scars left behind by these times. Some look back and blame the crisis for their declining marriage or the rise in child abuse cases.

For others, the effects are still present in the form of fear. The number of families having children have dropped significantly, in part due to the fragility of our surroundings. People are unsure of whether or not we will find ourselves on solid ground over the next few years or if we will fall back into decline. In 2013, the birthrate for women between the ages of 15-44 fell to the lowest numbers ever recorded in the US.

Now, switching sides to the more positive aftermath of the recession. Believe it or not, there were some take away's that seemed to have helped. When men and women were forced out of their jobs, they had to get creative about their spending habits. There was also a significant shift in how people spent their time now that they found more of it on their hands. There was a rise in volunteers and for many, the family was forced to band together. Both of which have carried over into our modern day, at least for some, as a new way of life.

Our society has been making strides toward economic recovery, but the residual effects on our personal lives can carry on for years.

How have you recovered over the years?

Despite all the highly touted progress, our stability looks like on thin ice.

I feel we should stop speculation that land up finally at the door step of ordinary citizens who want to be left alone - siva

The recession is still going on today. There are far too many people with degrees that are out of work.
