Saving money at restaurants is important. In order for this to be accomplished, certain tips need to be followed.

Saving money in restaurants is possible

Saving money is a necessity, especially nowadays with the economy being worse than ever before. Some people prefer not going to restaurants at all, in an attempt to save some more money. That is not necessary though if you form and follow a specific strategy.

Opt for mid-range restaurants

Most mid-range restaurants like Applebees have significantly reduced their prices trying to attract customers. The amount of food offered is more than satisfying, while the price you have to pay can be as low as $10. How cool is that?

Drink lots of water

Drinking two glasses of water slowly before starting your meal can significantly reduce your appetite which in turn will result in ordering less and ultimately paying less. Furthermore, water can easily replace wine during your meal and save you even more money, as well as help you consume less calories.

Skip the appetizers and/or deserts

Appetizers and/or deserts can hurt you in the pocket and help you put on some weight before you know it. When eating at a restaurant, skip the appetizers and/or deserts and stick to your main dish. You can also order a salad, or a side salad with your meal, but this is it. View this as a gift to yourself, as you will watch your diet and save money at the same time.

Look for restaurant coupons and special offers

Several restaurants send coupons via mail according to which you are entitled to discounts. These may also be available in the yellow pages of your phone catalogue. Before going there it is wise to make a phone call or conduct a little research on the Internet to make sure that the particular restaurants are of your liking. It would also be helpful to check out any available special offers. Many restaurants offer important discounts to children or seniors on specific days of the week. The two at the price of one or the eat as much as you like for only 5 $ offers are also quite helpful.

Look for new restaurants

More often than not, new restaurants are willing to bent over backwards to get (and keep) customers, and since the competition is fierce, what they try to do is offer everything old and established restaurants cannot, and that among others includes lower prices. Take advantage of that to enjoy frequently a nice meal at a lower price. If you bring over friends or ask for special events to be held in those new restaurants, chances are the owners will offer you even bigger discounts and on a regular basis.

It is all about strategy

Saving money at restaurants is all about forming and following a smart strategy which will keep your stomach full, and your pocket half full.

Good advice Maria. My favorite way to save money when eating out is to go an "All You Can Eat" Buffets. There's a buffet for every taste. I like the Chinese Buffets, the Italian Buffets and the American Buffets best. As a rule you can always end up paying $15 to $20 per person or less.

I agree with Jerry. Eat All You Can is also fun! I wish they have more of those in my place.

Great article. I saved a ton of money on a recent car trip drinking only water. I also love going to the buffet at a local casino. Great food and the drinks and desserts are included for one price. I use comp points to pay for it and have a card they accept from having bariatric surgery that allows me children's price.
