Saving money on long distance calls is an attainable goal provided you follow some tips.

Long-distance calls

If relatives of friends live far away, you will have to make long-distance calls to communicate with them. If you are not careful though, those long -distance calls can quickly add up. Following some basic steps is important, to reduce the cost of those long -distance calls.

Voip (Voice Over Internet Protocol)

Voip is a phone service that helps you make long-distance phone calls via your Internet Service. With Voip, you are given the opportunity to choose the best deal, tailored to your personal needs. Factors you should consider before making your final decision, include flexibility, equipment required, money back guarantee, cost of the long-distance plan on a monthly (and even on a yearly) basis, as well as other taxes (such as network activation fees, directory assistance charges, as well as charges that occur when surpassing the minutes that are included in your plan).

Prepaid calling cards

Another way to save money on long-distance calls, is by using prepaid calling cards. When using prepaid calling cards, you get the lowest possible rates for international calls. You can make consecutive calls without having to enter your phone card information over and over again. If you need assistance regarding dialing instructions or city codes, what you can do is call at the Toll Free Customer Care Center.

Your phone bill is usually not going to be charged with extra charges, neither are you going to be asked to sign a contract. However, before proceeding with the purchase of a prepaid calling card, it is wise to read carefully the fine print. Sometimes, you may be charged with a small amount for every new long-distance call you make, and that can quickly add up. Last but not least, prepaid calling cards can be used from a pay-phone, your home, your hotel room, or even from a touch-tone phone.

Call your local phone company and ask about alternatives. Maybe there is a plan that is better suited for your needs that you are not aware of. If you are a long-time, good customer, perhaps you will be offered an even better deal (usually those deals are not heavily advertised, exactly because they are intended for a chosen few).

Emails, sms and instant messenger

There are other ways to contact relatives or friends, besides using the phone. With emails and instant messenger you get the chance to actually say more than you would if you had used the phone, without paying a thing. If your cell phone plan offers you a certain number of free sms on a monthly basis, take advantage of it to contact with friends and relatives who live far away.

Take advantage of the free long distance cell phone plan

Check out if your cell phone plan includes free long distance, and if that is not the case, ask how you can get it. If you get into the habit of calling late at night or during the weekends, you will manage to save even more money on long-distance calls.

Following the above basic steps, it is for certain that you will manage to save money on long-distance calls.

One of the things that you need to consider when looking at VoIP programs is whether they require your computer t be online in order to make and/or receive telephone calls. If you need continuous telephone service you don't want a VoIP that requires your computer to be booted up and online unless you leave your computer online at all times. There are other VoIP services that provide you with a phone modem that you connect between your broadband modem and your computer. The separate modem allows you to receive and make calls even if your computer is offline One of the best stand alone VoIP telephone programs is the one offered by Vonage. I have it and I have unlimited calling in the states and most other countries for $35 a month. When I called a country that isn't covered in the base program the per minute cost is so minuscule that they are never a factor in how long I talk. They have a plan that will fit almost any ones unique needs so I recommend that anyone considering a VoIP phone system to check Vonage out first.. Vonage is also reliable. I've had it for three years now and I have only had to call their tech support people once and that was to get a replacement modem which was over-nighted to me at no cost.

I think there are so many VOIPs like skype, Poivy, jumbo and have different rates for different countries. Choose the one which is very cheap to call your country.
