Looking for some simple ways to save a little money? It might be easier than you think.

Think Before You Spend

Are you one of those people who likes to find ways to save money? I am. Whether we know it or not, there are things that we unnecessarily pay for. Here are some of the possible culprits and solutions to keeping more of your hard-earned money.

The Library is a Lot More Than Books

Avail yourself of the resources that are free for public use. This might include local and national publications that you can read. When it comes to magazines there is such a variety for children as well as adults. If you're thinking of hosting a party you can borrow DVDs and music CDs for your entertainment and listening pleasure. Browse the shelves for your favorite author or try a new one. While you don't need a library card to read on the premises, you will if you want to borrow items. Throughout the year there are a lot of programs that are sponsored by the library at no cost to you. It's a great money-saver.

Don't Forget Leftovers

They make an excellent choice for lunch. This saves you more money because you're not frequenting the over-priced fast food places.

Coupons and Loyalty Cards

You can find coupons from a variety of sources. Some establishments will even double the face value off your items. This adds up to extra money in your pocket.

Loyalty cards are a way of stores thanking their customers with an incentive such as this. I like the idea of getting a discounted price for being a regular customer.

Senior Bonus

Age has its advantages. Ask for the senior citizen's discounts at restaurants or other places of business.

Cable

Will you realistically look at all those channels that you're paying for with those high-priced cable packages? Cut back to the basics and enjoy the savings.

Skype

Wouldn't it be nice to see your long distance loved ones when you wanted? Although you may not be seeing them in person, it is still a good way to communicate and keep up with what's going on from faraway. This will only work if both parties have the software on their computer, phone or tablet. It's cheaper than an airline ticket and might be just enough to satisfy until you are able to see them in person. Of course it can be used locally too.

Baked Goods

Bread and baked items can be purchased at these stores at a more economical price. You can extend their life by freezing them.

Laundry

Is it necessary to do laundry every day? Those water and electrical bills can add up in no time. Try reducing your laundering to as minimal amount of time as possible.

Avoid Making Too Many Trips Needlessly

Save money on gas by consolidating the errands you run. If places you have to go to are near each other, do them at one time if possible. Gas is escalating in price. Be wise how you use it.

Lee, a few years ago when gas prices were $4 a gallon I started planning out my errands so that I would save money along the way. I would only do errands once a week and I would follow the route to save on gas. Gas prices are down now but I still follow my rules for when the prices were too high. Who knows it may happen again.

Good for you to keep this practice for the eventuality that prices do go up again.

All good points, and most of them I follow. I'm not a coupon cutter, though. Time is also a consideration.

Thanks for these tips. Good sage advice. If you do not ask for a senior discount you may not be rewarded for an old age advantage especially if you use coloring. LOL.
