Tax season is just around the corner as we all know. Each year the industry takes in and shells out millions of dollars in tax refunds and tax payments.

Beware of Tax scams

All to often, many people hurry to get their taxes prepared, some overlooking the obvious scams. It is good practice to research for tax preparers at least 3 or more months before your tax preparation. By research I mean, search the IRS website to be sure that particular person is an authorized provider. Research doesn't stop there however, besides finding out if they are authorized, you also want a seasoned tax preparer. A costly mistake one can make is selected a tax preparer with little to no experience. You need to be sure that particular tax preparer is familiar with any and all new tax laws and if preferable, learn a little about their educational background. Let's face it, tax preparers are in this market for one reason and one reason only, to make money. The Income Tax market is a very lucrative market. A tax preparer can easily make more money in the first quarter of the year than many make all year long, which by all accounts make the market more prone to scams. Another caution to look for are those fly by night operations. Those tax offices that are here today and gone tomorrow. One tax season they are there and the next tax season you can't find them. In between those times, if you need a copy of your return or need answers, there's no one to contact. Another tip is, to always be sure when your tax preparer is preparing your taxes, make sure it's within your view so that you can see and read what is being entered. It only takes a minute or so or less to change figures to manipulate your refund so they can charge more. If there's just no one you can trust, then I advise you to use Free-file on the IRS website or a good tax prep software like Turbo Tax and H&R Block. These are the 2 top leading online tax preparation software, easy to use and great for the novice or beginner. Also, if you are not certain about how to use these software programs, you can view full tutorials for Turbo Tax on Youtube by entering keywords Turbo Tax tutorial in the search box. Tax season proves to be hectic enough, knowing ahead of time what things to take precaution to will drastically aid you in receiving the best possible service available. To get more information on different types of scams, go to the IRS website and enter keyword scams into the search box.
