Ten Easy Ways to Save Money in your life so that you can become debt free and financially independent.

Main

What Are 10 Easy Ways to Save Money? The list I have laid out below are some of the things that I follow in my life to save money when I can. They may not be for everyone, but it certainly has suited me well in life.

1) Coupons - Coupons are all the rage these days, and for good reason! Why pay full price for something when you can use a coupon and save? It only takes minutes to save dollars off of every item you buy, which can add up fast!

2) Comparison Shopping - From Gas, to Groceries to Travel, if you don't comparison shop then you are truly doing yourself a great disservice. Especially with the internet now, it is so easy and quick to compare prices between retailers and choose the best buy and save bundles.

3) Objectively Evaluating our Purchases - For big ticket items especially, we should evaluate whether we really need the item and think about what we are giving up in order to afford it before we buy. This can sometimes save us a lot of money from buying frivolous items.

4) Purchasing Generic Merchandise - From medicine, to food and clothing, by purchasing generic brands you can get the exact same product without that designer markup.

5) Planning Out Errands - By arranging your driving habits in an efficient manner, you can save time and gas by traveling in a circular pattern, rather than cris-crossing about town from one place to the next.

6) Reuse and Recycle - Instead of buying garbage bags, use leftover bags you have from shopping purchases. Instead of purchasing condiments and napkins, use the leftovers you generally have when eating out at fast food restaurants. Recycle all cans/plastic/glass that you purchase and cash in.

7) Purchase Used Items When Possible - From Cars to Houses to Clothing, used is generally just as nice as brand new and doesn't have the significant drop in value as soon as you purchase it like new items do.

8) Eat at Home More Often - Make coffee at home or bring your lunch to work a few days a week and you will save $20+ a week easily!

9) Use Credit Cars for everything and pay it off on time - Most credit cards offer 1-5% cashback on purchases, so if you spend $50,000 a year all on your credit card and pay it off, you just earned yourself $500 for doing nothing!

10) Save your pennies! - All pennies that were minted before 1982 have actual copper in them and are thought to be valued at $.02-.03 each based on the price of copper. There are still tons of them in circulation so they are easy to find and save. In the future pennies may no longer be minted and you would be able to earn a 200-300% return on each one you have. In addition to that, right now people are buying these pennies for $.015+ on Ebay so you can get immediate cash for them if you like. Wheat pennies are harder to find, but are still in circulation and can fetch up to $100 depending on the type it is.

Some may say I'm cheap, but I think that there are many situations in life where being frugal doesn't necessarily mean that I should be considered cheap. Personally, I don't care what other people think though because with the money I am saving, I am able to travel and see the world while others are stuck at home paying their bills because they thought using a coupon made them look cheap. =)

good idea.
I know some people have taken coupon shopping to the extreme. But, why pay if you can get it for free.
