A look at what is needed for work at home careers to become successful and remain that way.

Harder Than You May Think!

If you have just started your search for work at home careers, you probably have an unrealistic concept of what working from your house is like. You probably imagine yourself getting put of bed whenever you want, lazing about in your boxer shorts then shuffling to the kitchen to get some coffee. This is closely followed by a short days work and a large bouncy paycheck! I hate to burst your bubble - it doesn’t work that way at all!

The truth is work at home careers are always a lot more difficult than working in an office somewhere. Scam makers and hyped-up business opportunity adverts have given us the belief that work at home careers are the way forward. You know the adverts - I know the adverts - we all know the adverts!

Here are some things you should consider before deciding on work at home careers:

What type of money are you looking for? – A job that pays $11.00 an hour in the regular workforce might pay $7 or $8 an hour at home. There are exception to the rule of course. Some work at home careers like virtual assisting or web designing graphics and other professional jobs will probably pay more than a simple menial online jobs. A lot of work at home careers don't really base themselves around hourly pay either which can be a bit of a bind - not seeing a constant stream of cash coming in can soon whither the confidence you have in yourself.

What about benefits then? – The majority of work at home careers do not provide benefits like health insurance or life insurance. There will always be exceptions but these are few and far between. Ask yourself - do you need benefits?

Taxes - yeah we all know these are a big drag but what part of the world are you planning to work from home in? I know certain areas of the world ( like the US ) can be quite strict about these types of taxes.

Is your motivation real motivation? – If you are the type of person who usually needs a kick start to get moving then this type of career is not for you. You have to be extremely disciplined to sit down at the PC, log in and actually work hard each day. There are so many distractions in the home that will ruin your working day if you let them. You have to be very focused and set a schedule for yourself, just like any nine to five job outside the home.

Solitude can be lonely? – work at home careers can be lonely and full of pressure. If you thrive on social interaction then this could be something you will not succeed at. I found that joining a few work related forums or chat groups could easily override this loneliness.

So that's about it - work at home careers are not always what they are cracked up to be. Hard work, dedication and a rigid schedule are very important aspects to succeed. Are you a good fit for the bill?
